Today, the TFT-LCD industry is highly mature, holding a clear cost advantage in large-size displays. Material systems have evolved from amorphous silicon to advanced semiconductors like IGZO, enabling higher refresh rates and lower power consumption. Major applications span consumer electronics (mid-to-low-end smartphones, laptops) and specialized fields (automotive, medical devices). To compete with OLED displays, TFT-LCDs have adopted Mini-LED backlighting to enhance contrast and integrated quantum dot technology to expand color gamut, maintaining competitiveness in high-end markets.
3. Future Prospects for TFT-LCD Display Technology
Future developments in TFT-LCDs will focus on Mini-LED backlighting and IGZO technology. The former can deliver image quality comparable to OLED, while the latter improves energy efficiency and resolution. In terms of applications, the trend toward multi-screen setups in new energy vehicles and the growth of industrial IoT will drive sustained demand. Despite competition from OLED Screen and Micro LED, TFT-LCDs will remain a key player in medium-to-large display markets, leveraging their mature supply chain and cost-performance advantages.
